Sarah lay in the bed she shared with Fran and wondered what had gone wrong. Her heart had been so full of love, but now something else was creeping in - a strange emptiness that left her feeling alone and desperate. She did not know when it had started, or why. Perhaps it was the shock of her mother's death, the frustration with Fran's mother's advancing senility, or the stress of her dead-end job. Sarah saw only one way out - she made up her mind to leave.
